City of Shreveport - Assistant Project Manager/ Economic Development Coordinator

PAY RANGE            $45, 000                    Annually

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  

1). Serves as a central coordinator for all OED activities, making use of tools and standard practices to ensure the Director and all OED functions are appropriately supported. Supports the Director or other project managers in planning and execution of OED projects. May serve as a project lead on OED projects, and direct the project team as necessary. Will confer with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve questions of project intent, investment requirements and outcome expectations. Reviews ongoing results of real-time project assessment and recommends project changes as necessary.

2). Will organize and track all project documents, and will prepare presentation materials, flow charts, diagrams, program narratives, decision tables, etc. as required to describe and document projects or in a project specification document.

3). Maintains a project schedule of work to be accomplished and reports to the Director on the status of the work in progress and any effect on future related tasks. Will monitor and report on project budgets and spending, evaluating and identifying challenges, and identifying resources available to solve problems. May serve as the interface between subordinate personnel and department management. Prepares documentation and written instructional materials. 4. May lead the development of training materials, and conduct training courses. Assists in developing department standards, procedures and controls. Performs other duties and tasks as assigned. Will work independently at a high technical level.

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Superior nonverbal and verbal communication skills
  • Leadership capability, and ability to lead a team toward the completion of a project.
  • Negotiation skills with regard to costs, timeline and/or other project requirements
  • Experience in planning, evaluating and adjusting budgets to help the team meet the financial requirements of the project.
  • Advanced use of Powerpoint and other Microsoft Office applications.


MINIMUM PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1). Graduate from an accredited college with a degree in a related field and two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience as an administrative assistant or coordinator.

2.) Previous experience managing real estate, healthcare, construction, technology development or other similar projects, with related certifications and/or a demonstrable combination of courses, training or direct experience.

3). Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.

4.) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinated, departmental management and other employees within the user departments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Tasks involve the ability to exert very light physical effort in sedentary to light work, involving some reaching, handling, fingering and/or feeling of objects and materials. Tasks require perception and discrimination of visual and oral communication ability.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

Tasks are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

NORMAL PROMOTIONAL PATH FROM THIS CLASS: Any higher class or level for which eligible and qualified.
